Stiff or heavy pedal
A fraying or dry cable.
A stiff, sticky or suddenly floppy clutch pedal can leave you stuck in gear. We adjust or replace the clutch cable — or bleed and repair the hydraulic system on cars that use one — right where your car is.
On a manual car, the clutch pedal disengages the engine from the gearbox. Some cars use a steel cable to do this; others use a small hydraulic system with a master and slave cylinder.
Cables stretch, fray and eventually snap, while hydraulic systems can leak or draw in air. Either way the pedal feel changes before it fails — so a quick fix now avoids being stranded in traffic.

Snapped cable or hydraulic leak.
The clutch isn’t fully disengaging.
Needs adjustment.
Good to know: A worn clutch plate or pressure plate needs the gearbox removed — that’s a workshop job we can arrange and quote.

Repaired where it’s parked, tested, and you pay when it’s done.
A pedal that feels stiff, notchy or suddenly loose, or a clutch that bites at a very different point than before, are common signs.
It’s not safe. You won’t be able to change gears normally. Stop somewhere safe and we’ll come to you.
No. The cable operates the clutch; replacing the clutch itself is a much larger job that needs the gearbox removed.
