A single loud click
Power reaches the starter but it doesn’t turn.
Turn the key and get a click — or nothing at all? We find out whether it’s the battery, the wiring or the starter motor, then fix it where the car is parked. No tow truck needed.
The starter motor is a small electric motor that spins the engine to get it running. When it fails you’ll usually hear a single click, rapid clicking, or a grinding whirr without the engine turning over.
The same symptoms can come from a flat battery, a corroded terminal or a faulty ignition switch, so we test those first. That way you only pay for a new starter if you actually need one.

Worn starter gear or flywheel teeth.
Intermittent starting that gets worse over time.
An overheating starter from repeated cranking.
Good to know: If the flywheel teeth are damaged, that repair needs the gearbox removed — we’ll explain the options and quote first.

If the lights and radio work normally but the engine only clicks or doesn’t turn, it’s often the starter. If everything is dim or dead, it’s more likely the battery. We test both before replacing anything.
Yes, on most cars. We just need enough room around the car and, for some models, to get underneath it.
A quality reconditioned starter is a good-value choice for older cars; a new one suits newer cars or long-term ownership. We’ll quote both.
